The 2009 MIST Summer Teacher Workshop
July 29-31st

Arrival and Check-in    |    Agenda     |   Maps

The 2009 MIST Summer Teacher Workshop is possible with a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF).

  • We have a total of 42 seats available, but they must include a balance between high school and community college instructors across the disciplines of math, chemistry and biology.

  • We are very interested in having teams of teachers come as a group, so we encourage you to invite your fellow math, chemistry and biology teachers from your school or nearby schools to join you. With this as one of our goals, preference will be given to teams of at least two people.

  • As part of our continued support for teachers, please expect to attend two follow-up meetings (Fall & Spring). Our goal is to allow teachers to have time to work with the Merit-style in their own classrooms and then come back for additional support. We will be discussing any questions you may have; go over any concerns, stumbling-blocks, frustrations; and provide an opportunity for you to share your own personal experience with the Merit-Style in your classroom. Financial Support for these follow-up meetings will be available.
  • All participants will receive:
    • A stipend of approximately $200
    • Continuing Education Credit: approximately 15 contact hours towards CPDUs or CEUs
    • Lodging at the Illini Union located directly on the campus quad
    • Breakfast, lunch and snacks

  • Travel reimbursement is available:
    • In-state driving - up to $200
    • Contiguous states driving - up to $275
    • Contiguous states by air - up to $350
    • Other outlying areas by air - up to $500

  • Workshop Location:
The workshop is located in the Mathematics, Science and Technology Education (MSTE) building, Room 201 at 505 E Green Street. Please be sure to arrive around 8:00 for check-in and to receive your Workshop Welcome Bags on Wednesday, July 29th. Breakfast will be provided. Check our Campus Map for information on the campus layout and building locations.

  • Check-In, Check-Out for the Illini Union:
For those checking in at the Illini Union, Check-in starts at 3:00 pm on Tuesday and Check-out is by 1:00 pm on Friday. Please be ready to check-out on Friday, however, if you need an additional day due to flights and need to check-out on Saturday instead of Friday, please let me know ASAP so I can reserve your room for an extra night. Otherwise I cannot guarantee that the room will still be available from Friday to Saturday. On request, The Union will provide you with a parking pass at the time of check-in for the adjacent parking lot if you need to park a vehicle.
  • Parking:
For those driving in, but not staying at the Illini Union, we will provide you with parking passes for each day you need to park on Campus. We will be mailing you a pass for the first day and then handing out any additional passes needed for the rest of the workshop. You can check our Parking Map for available parking locations on campus (These will be in bright yellow). All we ask is to please return any used passes before you leave.

  • Arrival from Willard Airport (CMI):
If you are arriving at Willard Airport and need to get to the Illini Union Hotel, there is a bus service that will take you direct from Willard to the Illini Union. For more on this please check out the Bus Schedule from Willard to Illini Union for route and departure times.
